Elliot Stein

Elliot Stein is the founder and principal of McCauley Group.

With a background spanning two decades in government, public affairs, and crisis communications, Elliot brings deep expertise in navigating complex policy environments and shaping reputational outcomes.

His career includes senior roles advising Federal and State Cabinet Ministers, as well as executive leaders in major national organisations across the health, international development and the social sectors. He has worked as consultant and as a member of the Australian foreign service in the United States.

Past work:

  • Advised Federal and State Cabinet Ministers on policy, stakeholder strategy, and major reform agendas

  • Advised a South American Government concerning its finance arrangements the World Bank

  • Supported a United Nations mission in a successful campaign for election to the UN Security Council

  • Led media engagement, enterprise communications and stakeholder strategy during a major cyber incident for a national healthcare network, supporting executive decision-making

  • Supported national reform processes within highly regulated sectors, including health and aged care

  • Supported a leading Australian university with crisis scenario planning

  • Delivered a training module for senior Australian Government legal and policy teams

  • Led the public policy and stakeholder strategy for the micro-economic reform of personalised transportation

  • Led cross-jurisdictional engagement with State Premiers, to mobilise government support following a major humanitarian disaster on behalf of an UN agency’s national committee
